DIY Recap 2013

Happy New Year!  Welcome 2014!!

What a wonderful day...the first day of a new year and we are almost there. New beginnings are always bitter sweet. Saying good bye to the past, especially memories of good times can be a little sad but looking forward into the future can be exciting.

This past year I spent a lot of time on this blog and much to my surprise I had a lot of amazing feedback. I love DIY and I love sharing my projects but finding out that you like them too is the icing on the cake. For this reason I wanted to recap the Top 10 DIY projects of this past year. They are the top 10 projects based on what you liked the most. Of course I love them all and am so glad you do/did too. Actually am sometimes delightfully surprised at what is favored. Thank you all for visiting and especially providing such positive feedback.

Here are the top 10!

Scarves Scarves Scarves

I Love Scarves!

In my new closet I have the perfect place for all of my scarves. A while back I found a "Design-A-Drape" window decorating system at the thrift store. Apparently they use to be made by a company in Delaware but I could not find any additional information. I assume they are no longer in business. Here is a photo of a similar system...
...as you can see the one I found is a bit different. I wish I could find a photo of what the finished product would look like once fabric is pulled through the loops. Oh well, just use your imagination.

Anyway...I hung it in the corner of my wall and pulled my scarves through.

So, there are still a few holes left...time to go shopping!

Dressing Table

Hello to you all. I hope you had a very happy holiday. We have been very busy in our home. On the day after Thanksgiving (yes...black Friday) we started our kitchen remodel. I know...CRAZY right? It has been a long month but we are almost done and the kitchen was useable for Christmas Eve dinner. There is a punch list that will be completed over the next several weeks but overall things have unfolded nicely. And yes...there will be a post to reveal.

Until then I would like to share some of the projects inspired by my New Boudoir

I wanted an old fashioned dressing table and found this desk at the thrift store. Sorry for the photo...cell phone shot. I forgot to take another picture but I think you get the idea.

It was a bit beat up and the once beautiful wood overlay was mostly gone leaving a shadow of what once was. Before I got started I found these at the hardware store and they worked well as a replacement.

The hardware was original but rusty so I sprayed all with silver spray paint.

I used a leftover home made chalk paint in very light blue (almost grey). I wanted more of a washed look and using only one coat of paint did the trick. To add more character I used a dark wax in random places. I finished with a clear wax on all areas except the top where I used a polyacrylic.

Here are some more pics....

Stay tuned for more projects from my Boudoir!

My New Boudoir

When we bought our home 3 1/2 years ago I knew that closet space was going to be an issue, at least for me. The closet in the master bedroom was of moderate size so of course that one went to the hubby. In the semi-finished attic space on the finished side, there are 2 closets, one large one moderate so they both become mine. I found it hard to put together my work outfits with all of my clothes and shoes spread out in two different closets. For this reason I decided to turn the unfinished side of the attic into My Boudoir (ok, my closet).

First, my inspiration....
