Peir 1 Import Knock-off Vase

About a month ago I was at the local thrift store and stumbled across a vase with a really cool shape but a really dated color. I had seen various vases from Pier 1 Imports, each of which had qualities that I liked. This vase had a shape that would work so I decided to combines the elements of those from Pier 1 to create my own unique vase. Here is the finished product...

Here are the inspiration vases....

Supplies:
·         Vase
·         Primer spray paint
·         Stain
·         Gold Metallic Spray Paint
·         Clear Glossy Spray Paint

1. Spray paint the entire vase with the primer. I always use Zinsser Cover Stain Oil Based Primer.
 2. Paint on the stain. I use sponge brushes and Minwax Dark Walnut stain.
3. To create a crinkled look, spray paint metallic gold on the top portion of the vase only allowing the paint to run down the side. I used Rust-oleum Metallic in Gold.

The gold with begin to naturally crinkle.

Spray the gold paint on thick enough so there is enough paint to run down to the bottom of the vase.

When the gold is dry but not completely hard, lightly pat down the crackles until smooth

Spray the entire vase with three coats of high gloss spray paint. Let dry and fill with flowers.

  1. wonderful, I love it. I also love Pier one. They can be expensive. I would never have thought of this though. That shape would also make a great pumpkin. I will look at thngs with fresh eyes.

  2. This looks awesome. I'm confused on one step though. What do you pat the crackles with?
