"Let's Vase It" Series - #4, DIY Rosette Vase

Well, here we are at the end of week and the end of my four part series "Let's Vase It".
I am concluding this series with a DIY Rosette Vase.

This was a fairly easy DIY with a unique pattern. I made rosette swirls with my fingers but you can be creative and do whatever pattern you want. Also, any metallic paint would work. Regardless of what you decide just have fun!

                       It was made with...
  • a thrift store glass vase
  • silicone caulk
  • primer spray paint
  • metallic spray paint
  • satin sealer spray paint

Now all you have to do is add the flowers~!!

"Let's Vase It" Series - #3, Mother's Day Keepsake Vase

I know, I know, another vase. For some reason all of my craft ideas are for vases. I assume this will pass but for now I am just enjoying the ride.

Here is my Mother's Day Keepsake Vase

This project was made with a;
  • Dollar Store Vase
  • Photographs printed on regular printer paper
  • Spray glue
  • Modpodge
  • Clear satin spray paint

First I found pictures of my first three children when they were between the ages of 2 and 5. I had them just a few years apart so it was like having triplets. Those memories are priceless. Because these pictures were taken in the pre-digital camera era I had to actually take a picture of the photographs and then edit a bit to get out the graininess. During the edit process I was also able to crop them to the size I needed to fill the spaces on the vase. I also printed them all out as black and white. This helped to improve the quality a bit.

Next step was to spray the dollar store vase with glue.

Then I began to place the pictures on the vase in random patterns. I had to return to the printer a few times to tweak the sizes of some of the pictures so that they fit. As you can see there are still some areas of the vase that are not covered with pictures. The spray glue gave the glass a frosted look, which I liked and wanted to show through a bit so it worked out well.

Once all the pictures were stuck down I painted two layers of ModPodge over the entire vase followed by a coat of satin clear coat.

Add flowers and you have a great gift for Mom!

"Let's Vase It" Series - #2, Faux Milk Glass Vases

A quick hello on this wonderful Wednesday.

I just love Milk Glass, especially vases. I picked up a few glass vases at the local thrift store and turned them into faux milk glass with a coat of primer and a coat of flat white spray paint. Placed together they make a wonderful arrangement.

Enjoy!

"Let's Vase It" Series - #1, DIY Rope Vase

Not sure why but I am a little obsessed with vases these days.
I guess its all the beautiful blooms of spring.
Here is my latest

A few years ago my daughter got married and we made her centerpieces.
This is one of the leftover glass vases.

This is my inspiration from Pottery Barn...

Wanna make one for yourself?
Here goes...

Once the silicone strings were applied on all four sides and allowed to dry completely the vase was then sprayed with Primer and Flat White Spray paint.

Spray Painted Slender Vase

Wow..Friday seemed to take forever but I am glad it's finally here. I hope you all had a great week. One thing that made this week so nice was our weather. We actually had a string of Summer like days with temperatures in the high 80's. Of course that has made my spring bulbs come alive faster. I love looking out the window at my daffodils and tulips but I also like to bring some inside to place around the house.

For my first display of the season I used one of my slender vases (left over from my daughter's bridal shower). I love the shape and they are wonderful to use with two or three flowers. Of course I couldn't leave good enough alone and combined my love of those little vases with my bigger love of spray paint. Here's what came out of a manic spray paint session (LOL).

Sorry, but I got so excited at the use of multiple colors that I did not take any pics of the process so I will just explain:

Spray paint in the following order. I let the paint dry completely after the primer but not so much after the colors. The wrinkle effect occurred with the first color sprayed over the primer and continued more after each of the other colors.
  •  Spray painted with Primer - (Zinsser 1-2-3 Primer), covered the entire surface
  • Spray painted with Yellow - (RustOleum), covered the entire surface
  • Spray painted with Green - (Krylon), covered the entire surgace
  • Spray painted with Pink - (RustOleum), only in spirts

Close up of the effects made by spraying the color over the primer...cool huh!
