Tiered Serving Dish

I love plates. I know a little weird. I have several sets of dishes in different shapes, colors, and patterns each for different eating experiences. For example; the Corian are for very casual dining (sitting on the couch with plate in lap and TV on). Ceramic every day for when we actually sit down at the table and talk about the day. Black square for a dinner party with one or two other couples. And of course the Christmas dishes for, well you know. 

So...when I saw these dishes at the local thrift store I just had to have them. Unfortunately there was not an entire set (and my husband would have an eye-roll moment if I brought any more plates home) so I bought one of each (and 2 short glasses) with the following project in mind.

 

One dollar each. Not bad!

Something Intertwined

A Wreath is defined as something intertwined, an arrangement of flowers, leaves, or stems fastened in a ring and used for decoration. 

 

Wreath translated literally means, "a thing bound around," from the Greek word diadema.

Like most of you I love adorning my front (and back) door with a wreath. I have made one for every season and several holidays. I like my guests to be greeted with beauty when they visit and to keep up interest I change the wreaths along with the seasons and holidays.

Spring in the Air?

It might be the end of February but a swift stroll around my yard gave hope that  

Spring is in the air....or at least in the ground. Personally I can't wait until the blooms are a bloom'n but in the meantime I have several projects that will bring color to my home. 

Just a hint of what's to come....guess what???

Murray Hill

I have to admit that I am not a winter gal. I love the spring, summer, and fall but the winter...not so much. I might like it better if we ever got any snow but it rarely occurs. The average temperature is around 40 degrees, not real cold but not warm enough to spend much time outside. So....yesterday, with a high of 52 degrees and mostly sunny I just could not stay inside. I dragged my husband (and Buttons) out for a walk in one of my favorite neighborhoods in Annapolis...Murray Hill.

Murray Hill is a neighborhood known for its diverse mix of architecture with homes constructed in many different eras and styles. In 1890 owner of Acton Hall (Place) James D. Murray and heirs developed what was then called Acton and began selling lots. Renamed "Murray Hill" by Mr. Murray, lots were offered at a fraction of the cost of downtown Annapolis land but sales were slow. A poor economy and a location considered too far from the center of town kept sales slow until the 20th century when the U.S. Navel Academy and Annapolis Emergency Hospital (1902) opened attracting new professionals to the city.
